Museums, Gardens, Cathedrals in Paris

After obtaining our coveted visas, we were ready to see Paris. So the next day, we bought the 2 day museum pass and being the kiasu Singaporeans we were, we planned to maximize it fully. We were also helped by the lovely weather we had while we were there, it was all sunshine and fabulous warm weather, just the way we liked it :)
Beautiful day in Paris

Musee du Moyen Age - we came here cos I know Y is very crazy about the Unicorn Tapestries here and I wanted to see for myself how they looked. The museum is actually rather small so it was easy to walk around. The tapestries were quite amazing and I did enjoy looking at them. I listened to the audio guide twice just to make sure I caught everything though of course if you ask me now, I won't remember a thing. They were exhibited in a room by themselves so you can admire them without any other distractions. There were other exhibits as well which I quite liked, though if you're short on time you can probably skip them.

Pantheon Paris - we couldn't enter this cos it was closed for some reason!! Was quite bummed about that cos it looked quite imposing on the outside. It's originally built as a church dedicated to St Genevieve but now combines liturgical functions with its role as a famous burial place. Marie Curie, Victor Hugo, Louis Braille etc... We thought we will pop by again when we're back in Paris but nope we didn't.

Jardin du Luxembourg - as mentioned it was lovely weather when we were in Paris so the Parisians were out in full force basking in the sun. It is the second largest public park in Paris and I thought it was cute how they have chairs in the park for people to sit on and sun tan and chit chat. We did the same too (not the sun tanning, just chit chatting), and had a picnic lunch of very unhealthy fast food in the park. The garden was quite big and we didn't really explore most of it, it will be interesting to visit it again in summer.

Spring time!!!

Saint Sulpice Church - made famous in The Da Vinci Code, we went there cos it was along the way to somewhere else (can’t remember where now). It was quite funny cos the church actually had a sign made to explain that the line mentioned in Da Vinci code is NOT the rose line but a sundial. And we read that quite frequently there are tourist knocking on the floor looking for secret treasures. The church itself was quite grand so even if you’re not a Dan Brown fan (which we are not), it would be interesting to drop by. In any case we have already found the holy grail so no digging or anything like that here, haha...

The "rose line" in Saint Sulpice

Musee Rodin - it was quite late by the time we reached the museum so we only had time to do the garden and not the museum. In any case most of the famous pieces were outside so it was still alright. We had the Thinker, Gates of Hell so it was quite lovely to walk around. Would probably be quite pleasant to pack a sandwich and have lunch there or something.

In the gardens

Musee d'Orsay - YX said she loved this museum and highly recommended it and I was glad we did. The museum itself was a lovely piece of architecture and I really loved how they let the natural light in. It was a pity though that they were doing renovations so the paintings were a bit all over the place. We joined the guided tour and our guide was really good, she had so much to cover in too short a time but she still gave us a very good overview of the different styles of paintings, we were probably the 2 most clueless people in the group, lol... Oh well, we have to start learning somewhere and that was probably the best place to start.
Whew, looking back now, that was a LOT of place to cover in one day. Goodness... More in the next entry!
